Bellaire Builder, Legal Eagle Contractors, Co. Wins National Remodeling Award for a unique “Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator” Project
Continuing to set new standards of professionalism, 77 companies from across the United States were named winners at the 2019 Chrysalis Awards for Remodeling Excellence. The entries were judged on the overall design, the creative use of space and materials, and the degree to which the project enhanced the original structure.
Legal Eagle’s project consisted of a large townhouse renovation with the installation of a unique three-story “Pneumatic Vacuum Elevator”, or “PVE”. The owners wanted their renovation to include “aging-in-place” features, so they can live in their home for the rest of their lives without having to move to assisted living or a nursing home”. “Installing a Three-story elevator in a home that was never designed for an elevator of any kind is quite a challenge!” said Dan Bawden, President & CEO of Legal Eagle Contractors, Co. in Bellaire, Texas. The hole for the elevator at the 3rd floor came up through the 3rd floor Master Bath Shower, so that bathroom had to be remodeled as well. The owners took advantage of the situation to get rid of the large tub they never used, and convert the tub to a spacious, walk-in aging-in-place shower. (see photos below). The owners and I decided a “PVE elevator” was the best fit because it was cheaper and easier to install than a regular shaft elevator.
“This type of elevator is amazing!” said Dan Bawden. “It works just like the vacuum thing you use at the bank drive-in, only slower of course; and it is completely safe. It is a great solution for anyone with mobility issues who want to continue being able to access the second floor of their home.”
According to Ken Kanline, long-time organizer and Director of The Chrysalis Awards program, begun in 1994, recognizes the nation’s best work in fourteen general categories of residential and commercial remodeling. The Chrysalis Awards are open to every professional remodeler and design professional in the United States.
“To win an award in this highly competitive category is quite an achievement,” says Ken Kanline, Director of the Awards.
“This company has won Chrysalis Awards in the past, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to professionalism and excellence,” says Ken Kanline director of the program.
“Legal Eagle Contractors won “Texas Remodeler of the Year in the Chrysalis awards a few years ago,” said Mr. Bawden, “So we decided to enter this especially cool project in the Chrysalis awards this year. We have been blessed to win numerous awards including seven “Awards of Excellence” from the Greater Houston Better Business Bureau, and “Best of Bellaire” four times”.
