Dan Bawden

Owner And President

Dan has almost 40 years of experience in design, remodeling and new construction and is a past Chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Remodelers division.  This is the top leadership position in the country with oversight for the $326 billion dollar remodeling industry.

“It was a humbling experience to serve as National Chairman for the remodeling industry.  This year of service in 2017 allowed me to visit Remodelers Council’s all across the country to take the pulse of this $300 Billion industry, made up mostly of small firms like mine. I had the opportunity to give best practices seminars, and see the inner workings of many remodeling companies.  It was fascinating.  I learned a lot that will help me make the remodeling experience even better for my own clients in the future.”

Dan has since been induced into the NAHB’s National Remodeling Hall of Fame.

He is a Graduate Master Builder, Certified Graduate Remodeler, Certified Aging in Place Specialist (a certification Dan himself helped to create), and a Certified Green Building Professional.  He has had these certifications for so long he teaches some of them to other builders, designers and architects, as an accredited Instructor for the National Association of Home Builders.  He earned both his Bachelor’s degree and Law degree from Baylor University. Sic’em Bears!

If his name sounds familiar, it could be because his comments regularly appear in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Money Magazine, Consumer Reports, Forbes, Better Homes & Gardens & many more consumer publications.  He has made regular appearances on HGTV, local TV live call-in radio shows in Houston.  Dan is the only builder who sits on the Board of Directors for the Greater Houston Better Business Bureau. He has been named Texas Remodeler of the Year four times and Houston Remodeler of the Year twice. Dan is also the creator of the viral Dan’s Funk Chart – a humorous look at the emotional ups and downs of all parties involved in a home remodel.

Dan is a musician – a solo vocalist and horn player – playing all kinds of trumpet styles in musical theater productions at the Hobby Center and the Wortham downtown, as well as in his church, St. Paul Presbyterian Church on Bellaire Blvd.  He serves as a Trustee in the Church, and has sung in the choir for many years. He also enjoys golf, racquetball, travel, photography, and snow skiing in a cow suit.

He has earned two places on the “world’s worst” list — by being both a remodeler and a practicing attorney – doing estate planning, as well as building.  It is not uncommon for him to “do your Wills and your room addition at the same time!”.   Dan is a champion for those with physical challenges, seniors, and baby boomers trying to help their parents age gracefully, safely and independently at home.   He speaks at senior groups and support groups around town on aging in place design sharing a slide show of beautiful ideas for your home.

His core duties in the company include Sales, Design, Marketing, Visioneering and Estimating for the company, and he does some of the field production on jobs as well.

He is a passionate advocate for the aging in place and universal design movement in this country, and practices what he preaches in his remodeling, design, and construction work.  Dan has opened the wildly popular “Idea Center” showroom in Houston, Texas to demonstrate to clients and students numerous unique remodeling and design ideas, in a working house. Come by for a free tour of amazing and beautiful ideas for your home.

Dan continues to teach universal design classes around the country, and was recently honored with the award: “National Instructor of the Year” by the NAHB in Washington DC.
