Holly – Master Bath Remodel

Project scope | Update as part of multi-room remodel |
Bellaire is a highly sought-after Houston-area community for home buyers. However, some of its 6,000 homes, such as this one, are on the older side and in need of updating.
This couple’s master bath was one of several rooms we renovated. As a geologist and nature photographer, one of the owners desired some unique stone accents in the master bath, as well as other parts of the house. These touches helped provide these spaces with some truly beautiful looks and timeless elegance.
Tile floors and counters give way to a mock-travertine porcelain floor and--the star of the room--blue bahia granite countertops. The new cabinets are prefabricated by Houston-based Better Made Cabinetry.
The old shower had a bit of a “locker room” feel, but the new version is all class. The walls are a similar porcelain to the floor except they’re polished, giving them visual distinction with their glossy finish.
We removed the wall in front of the toilet area; the “open-concept bathroom” design is not for everybody, but for homeowners who are comfortable with it it does help create more space in the room.
The old tub didn’t reach the shower, so we widened the pony wall so that a standard-sized tub would fit. This became the perfect place to showcase more of the bahia blue granite.
Project Highlights
- Blue bahia granite is priced accordingly with its scarcity and stunning look. The granite used in this home came from remnants, or fabricators’ leftover stone from full-slab jobs, which is a handy way to put it within reach of your budget. The homeowners even got to select the pieces with veining they liked the most.
- The tub features universal design and aging-in-place notes such as lever handles for easy grasping and a grab bar for safer entry and exit into and out of the tub. We always recommend adding elements like this when updating so you can enjoy the room for as long as possible.
